1. General information
The subject aims to deepen the study of the history of Hispanic theater through the analysis of texts of the different genres that make it up both the so-called major genres (comedy, tragedy, etc.) and the so-called minor or brief genres, both in Spanish and Latin American literature
This approach is aligned with the following SDGs:

The subject is part of the Optional Module of Specific Training of the Degree in Hispanic Philology and, as such, aims to reinforce the knowledge acquired in the specific compulsory module on History of Spanish Literature, specifically on Hispanic theater.
An advanced instrumental command of Spanish is required. Non-native students must have at least a B2 level of Spanish.
2. Learning results
- Critical knowledge of the main modalities of Hispanic theater.
- Differentiate theatrical forms of different Hispanic literary periods and movements.
- Analyse and characterize Hispanic theatrical texts.
3. Syllabus
1.- Theatrical texts of Spanish literature: short forms.
2.- Theatrical texts of Spanish literature: the extensive forms.
3.- Theatrical texts of Spanish-American literature.
Required reading. In any case, they will be different from those of the compulsory subjects and will try to cover authors and genres neglected in those programs. They will consist of unabridged texts and anthologies indicated or provided by the teacher.
4. Academic activities
The learning process will be developed through explanatory and participative classes in which we will work with literary and critical texts . The theoretical contents of the subject will be presented, and the works of compulsory reading will be analysed, as well as a selection of complementary texts and literary criticism that will be provided to the students. In the practical classes various activities will be carried out, including commentaries on specific samples of theatrical texts.

5. Assessment system
First call
a) Continuous assessment
If the number of students is less than 25, the faculty may apply the following continuous assessment system:
1. Two theoretical-practical written tests (80%) based on questions on the syllabus and readings. The following will be valued: comprehension and mastery of the theoretical concepts and the required readings, clarity in the exposition and linguistic and spelling correctness . The date will be announced well in advance.
2. Practical activities (20%) that will consist of several short tests of different types related to the program and the readings. The assessment criteria will be the same as those for the written tests. The nature, level of demand and date will be announced well in advance.
It is compulsory to take all the tests and in all of them the student must obtain a grade of 4 in order to average.
b) Global assessment
Written test: The first part will consist of questions from the syllabus and the required readings (80%). The second will consist of the resolution of objective tests (10%) and guided comments (10%). The assessment criteria will be the same as those for the continuous assessment tests.
Second call
Global assessment test.
Same test and criteria as in the global evaluation of the first call.
